Big Sky Western Ski Trip

BIG SKY TRIP RECAP
On Saturday, February 8th, 28 people boarded planes to Bozeman, MT. Upon arrival we loaded on to the bus for a short ride to Big Sky Resort. We stayed at the Huntley Lodge named for the one who founded the resort – Chet Huntley. Chet was born in Montana and was a co-anchor for NBC. He died 3 days before opening day. There is a lot of interesting history there. Boyne Resorts
purchased it in 1976.

On Sunday Morning, after a great breakfast in the dining room, we hit the slopes. Had a great view of Lone Peak from the dining room every morning. It was a very cold week. Most days the temp was around 0 degrees. However, we did have sun most of the Week😊. That helped with the cold along with 4 lifts with bubble covers and slightly heated seats. I will not name any names, but a few people forgot their IKON passes. They were able to get a new one at the ticket office.

Monday night we had a pizza party and Thursday night was an après ski appetizer night at Montana Jacks. On Wednesday, a lot of people took a break and headed down the mountain to the Town Center. There were a few shops, restaurants, and one brewery down there. Some ventured up on the tram to the top of Lone Peak for the awesome views. Did not hear that anyone skied down. The cold temperatures made for great snow conditions. Lots of talk on how much vertical people were getting.

Friday some of us celebrated Valentine’s Day with a heart covered tutu. (Thanks Julie!) The flight home was going fine until we started the descent to Grand Rapids. All of a sudden we were going back up. Pilot came on and said the Delta plane before us said the runway was Icey and he did not want to end up in the field. So, we were heading back to Chicago – not what we wanted to hear at 11:00 at night. We finally made it safely into Grand Rapids at 3:15 in the morning. Another great trip in the books for the Battle Creek Ski Club. Thanks to those who were on the trip!

We are so excited that we are going to Big Sky, Montana, one of the 7 largest ski resorts in North America! Big Sky has 5800 acres of skiable terrain, 300 runs, 38 lifts, spans 4 mountains, and receives an average of 400 inches of snow annually. Big Sky has the largest vertical drop in Montana, 4350 ft, off of the Lone Peak tram and although some of the most extreme skiing can be found here, 2300 acres are dedicated to beginner and intermediate terrain. The quality of snow and enjoyable slopes for all abilities makes this an exciting destination!

$2100 is the price for the land/air package. This package includes round trip airfare to Bozeman from Grand Rapids, transfers from/to Bozeman airport, accommodations at the Huntley Lodge in Big Sky Mountain Village (2 persons per hotel room with 2 queen beds) and daily breakfast. Big Sky is an IKON pass resort, as well as a participant in the Boyne Rewards Program. We are looking forward to collecting rewards points at many places across the resort!

Big Sky is an IKON pass resort, and if you purchased your 24/25 IKON pass you are all set for lifts! A couple of options are available for purchase of your ski pass, (IKON and other), however these will be subject to a price increase the first week of September.
